Defensive-zone Puck-possession Success-rates for Habs D-men

By Kicks @Chrisboucher73
This post will focus on each Montreal Canadiens defenseman's ability to make successful plays while in possession of the puck in the defensive-zone. Events used in this calculation include; passes, dekes, and dump-outs.  A successful  touch can be described as any successful pass, deke, or dump-out. Consequently, a failed attempt at any of these events would constitute an unsuccessful offensive-touch. Only even-strength events were used in this calculation.
Players with more FAILED offensive-touches turn the puck over in the defensive-zone more often than players with more successful o-touches.
HOW TO READ THE GRAPH
  • The higher a player's bubble is, the more FAILED offensive-touches they have contributed per-minute of ice time.
  • The further to the right a player's bubble is, the more SUCCESSFUL offensive-touches they have contributed per-minute of ice-time.
  • The bigger a player's bubble is, the higher that player's overall offensive-touch success-rate is in the offensive-zone.
 success-rate=(successful attempts)/(total attempts)
A player whose bubble appears in the bottom-right of the graph has contributed more successful puck-possession plays, and FEWER turnovers than a player whose bubble appears in the top-left of the graph.
A player who's bubble appears in the upper-right of the graph engages in substantially-more puck-possession events. Expressed simply, he has the puck on his stick more often than players who's bubble appears in the bottom-left.
PK Subban has produced far-and-away more successful puck-possession plays in the defensive-zone than other Montreal defensemen. As a result, PK also has the best puck-possession success-rate in the defensive-zone.
Nathan Beaulieu has produced the second-most successful puck-possession plays in the defensive-zone. Unfortunately, he has also produced the most failed offensive-touches. That said, since his recent call-up Beaulieu's defensive-zone puck-possession success-rate has been 72.5% compared to his season average of 62.8%.
Josh Gorges has produced the third-most successful puck-possession plays per-minute. He has also contributed the fewest failed offensive-touches; giving him the second-best puck-possession success-rate among Habs d-men.
Only Gorges has produced fewer failed puck-possession plays in the defensive-zone than Raphael Diaz. Expressed differently, this means that only Gorges produces fewer defensive-zone turnovers per-minute than Diaz. It's also important to note that Diaz has the highest defensive-zone start percentage among Montreal d-men.
Markov has the fourth-best defensive-zone puck-possession success-rate among Habs d-men. That said, only Emelin and Beaulieu have produced more d-zone turnovers per-minute than Markov. Number 79 has produced a puck-possession success-rate of 69.2% over the last 10 games.
Only Beaulieu has produced more defensive-zone turnovers per-minute than Alexei Emelin. That said, Emelin's d-zone puck-possession success-rate is still substantially higher than Douglas Murray.
Francis Bouillon has produced the second-fewest successful defensive-zone puck-possession plays per-minute among Habs d-men. His success-rate is 69%.
Douglas Murray has produced the fewest successful puck-possession plays in the defensive-zone per-minute played, and has the d-core's lowest puck-possession success-rate. Expressed simply, Murray has the highest defensive-zone turnover-rate among Montreal defensemen. Only Subban has a lower d-zone start rate than Murray.
