Minister of the People’s Armed Forces Col. Gen. Jang Jong Nam (Chang Cho’ng-nam) met with several foreign military and Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War) veterans delegations during 25 to 29 July. On 26 July Col. Gen. Jang held separate meetings and conversed with a senior military delegation from Uganda, a Mongolian military delegation and a Tanzanian military delegation. Col. Gen. Jang’s meetings were attended by Vice Chief of the Korean People’s Army [KPA] General Staff Col. Gen. O Kum Chol.
On 29 July (Monday) Col. Gen. Jang met and coversed with a delegation of Chinese People’s Volunteers veterans of the Korean War (Fatherland Liberation War) led by former Chinese People’s Liberation Army [PLA] Air Force commander Yu Zhenwu. On the same say Col. Gen. Jang met and conversed with a delegation of war veteran and their family members headed by Yang Guoying, deputy director of the PRC’s Ministry of People’s Affairs. On 30 July (Tuesday) Col. Gen. Jang met and coversed with a veterans’ delegation headed by Ya. V. Kanov, Vice Chairman of the Korean War Veterans’ Council of Russia.
On 25 July the Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces [MPAF] hosted a reception for foreign military delegations and military attaches stationed in the DPRK. Attending the reception were military delegations from Uganda, Mongolia, Mozambique, Vietnam, Iran and Tanzania, and military attaches based in Pyongyang. Col. Gen. Jang Jong Nam attended the reception along with Vice Minister of the People’s Armed Forces, Col. Gen. Kang Pyo Yong and other Korean People’s Army generals and officers.
According to KCNA, Col. Gen. Jang said in his speech “that President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) wisely led the Korean army and people to victory, defeating the U.S.-led imperialist allied forces in the Fatherland Liberation War” and “recalled that the people of China, Russia and other people around the world people who loved justice and peace and opposed aggression rendered sincere support, material and moral, and solidarity to the just cause of the Korean people.” Col. Gen. Jang also said “July 27, the day of victory will always be in store for the DPRK invariably advancing along the road of independence, the road of Military-First [politics] (So’ngun) and the road of socialism by carrying forward the tradition of victory in the 1950s, single-mindedly united around Supreme Commander Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n)” and that “We will as ever make joint efforts to build a new independent world, peaceful and prosperous, in the idea of independence, friendship and peace together with the peace-loving countries which are friendly towards our country.”
Odongo Jeje, Ugandan state minister at the Ministry of Defense said “The struggle of the heroic Korean people to defend the sovereignty and dignity of the country serves as an example to us. I was deeply moved after witnessing the Korean people’s struggle. Through the visit I saw the reality totally different from the one described by the Western media,” according to KCNA.
