I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend. It was a raining for the majority of the weekend here.We needed rain,my plants are in heaven,it has been pretty dry around here lately. They’re very perky today after being fed with natural minerals.
I can’t believe it’s the second week of August already! It’s always a shock to me,when I walk into a store in mid-August and see fall clothes on display. It’s almost 100 degrees in some locations and the thought of trying on anything that is made for cold weather, is simply not appealing to me.
It does remind me of books and an idea I had lately to decorate my room with vignettes.
Decorating your interior with vignettes is simple and adds some “intelligent chic” to any room in your house.
When you walk into a room, the first thing your eye focuses on is anything bright. There are many colors and textures, furniture, lamps and rugs to process before you even notice the light shades. After you “walk” your eyes around the room, trying to take it all in, your focus shifts and returns to the smaller details. These smaller details grab and hold your interest the most. One of the quickest and easiest way to give your room an interior designer touch is to arrange objects into “vignettes.”
A vignette or tablescape is a small, picturesque scene created around your home. It can be a place to sit and chat over tea with a friend, a place to write or read or a simple area that you want to focus on to tell a story. You can change and re-arrange it whenever the mood strikes. As the homeowner, you can take this opportunity to tell your visitors the story of who you are, what kind of lifestyle you enjoy, and maybe even display your love of travel, art or plants.
Some people have a talent for decorating vignettes with things that fit together effortlessly.
Designing vignettes is a work of art.
In order to begin, you must decide what color scheme and design idea you will want to create before arranging your vignette, then comes the fun part of choosing items to support your design theme, as well as, where you will place the objects.
Some vignette design rules to remember:
- Photo frames, candles, coffee table books and floral arrangements are perfect props.
- You want balance it with color, height and texture based on the mood you are seeking to produce.
- If you want to prevent clutter in your room, create a vignette. No one would dream of upsetting your beautiful creation by leaving things like car keys or mail on top of it.
There’s a corner in my living room that is in desperate need of a design makeover. I call it my “wasted real estate” section. The more I look at it, more I want to go out and purchase a chair or a chaise lounge or add something that would spruce up the area. I thought, why not create a vignette? It’s perfect for this location.
I can just see myself in the future sitting here reading a book or just relaxing while I enjoy the outside view.
I went on a mission to seek out decorating ideas and here are some beautifully designed tabletop and mantle vignettes that I fell in love with and has inspired me to create my own vignette.
I like this one for it’s simplicity and I especially like the pop of color in the table lamp. I like how the white pictures frames are hung in different sizes and positions.
If you’re like me and don’t like putting books on the coffee table, then here’s a design suggestion do a tablescape.
For the romantic in you. So very chic and elegant!
Or you can be daring and experiment with color.
Maybe you love to travel. Showcase your memorabilia on your vignette. It’s a great way to start a conversation, everyone loves to talk about the destinations they’ve been to.
A great use of purple.
I have to admit that I am really partial to this one. It’s a perfect fit for that corner. I think that’s because the wall color is similar to what I already have. It’s very warm and pleasing to the eye.The placement of the objects are uncluttered and the use of various shades of white is not distracting. Love it!

Of course, you can have vignettes that showcase items that are totally unrelated to each other and in some cases can be some of the best.
I admired each and every one, there’s nothing like a well dressed room. It makes you feel good each time you walk by it or sit, relax and entertain it, don’t you think? I’m going to shopping around my perfect table to create my vignette. I will keep you posted as how things are progressing in upcoming posts. I think it’s such a wonderful idea to have this kind of design you can change it to reflect the seasons, a mood or for a special occasion.
I’ve heard it say that you should always make your home reflect your personality and lifestyle so that your friends and family look forward to visiting. I included styles that I love; mirrors, vases, color and, of course, books, hopefully I have showed enough variety to appeal to everyone’s taste.

PS: I’m sure you’ve read and seen the wonderful heart wrenching story of John Unger and his dog, Schoep. If not, I really encourage you to read it one of the numerous stories. I did a post last week Wednesday on dog houses and asked you to vote on which you would prefer, with a donation going to the Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. There’s still time to vote. It’s a cause near and dear to me.
