Decorating vases with paint dipping

Vases are a vital part of any flower arrangement. When you pair fresh flowers with the right vase, it can make all the difference. When you choose the wrong vase, however, it can have the opposite effect. Which makes it even trickier when you are planning an event that requires several centrepieces. The good news is that you probably have a number of potential vases just waiting to be decorated.

You need:

  • Clean canning jars, glass vases and glass bottles with any and all labels removed
  • Acrylic paints in various colours
  • Plastic containers
  • Parchment paper for the drying part of the process

Method:

  • Pour different colour paints in different containers. If you only have one plastic container, you can do one at a time.
  • Hold the bowl at an angle and dip the bottom of the jar in the paint. As you do, you should begin slowly turning the jar so that the jar is coated all around.
  • Set the jar right-side up on some parchment paper. Allow to dry overnight. Remember to leave it right-side up so that the paint does not drip in the wrong direction.
  • Turn the jars over and allow them to dry completely.
  • When your jars are ready, you can add water and fresh flowers before displaying as colourful centrepieces.

These vases are cheap and easy to make yourself. If you are hosting a breakfast, lunch or dinner party, you can create a number of these beautiful displays and present each guests with one of these arrangements. When choosing your paint colours, make sure that you keep the flower colours in mind. You want to make sure that they create a contrast while complimenting the display. In most cases, you should avoid using paint in the same colour as the dominant colour of the arrangement. Otherwise the colour could become too dominant and overpowering. Instead, choose a neutral colour or a colour that compliments the dominant colour like purple and yellow.
