
One of the officials said that the state's attorney general, Keith Ellison, would make an important announcement in the case early in the afternoon. The officials did not disclose the decision.
Three former officers can be seen on video above Floyd during his May 25 assassination. Derek Chauvin, who had his knee buried in Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, was charged with third degree murder and second degree manslaughter.
Former officers Thomas Lane and J.A. Keung, who helped retain Floyd, and a fourth former officer, Tou Thao, who stood by the others, have not yet been charged.
Two autopsies of Floyd determined that he died by homicide. The Minneapolis police chief dismissed the police and said they were "accomplices" in Floyd's death, and Floyd's family and protesters demanded that all police be arrested and sentenced for the murder.
Benjamin Crump, a lawyer for the Floyd family, told CNN on Wednesday that he was confident the other officers would be charged before Thursday's public memorial in Minneapolis.
"I am sure these officers will be charged before the people of Minneapolis say their last goodbye to George Floyd, may he rest in peace," he said.
