Plot: A carousing college professor’s life takes a series of unimaginable turns, and all the old stories are given a new twist when he begins to have surreal hallucinations and learns he may not be long for this world.

Story: Death of a Ladies’ Man starts with college professor Samuel (Byrne) finding his wife cheating on him. Kicking her out, he turns to drink, when he starts to have a vision of his dead father Ben (Gleeson). He spends time catching up with his adult children Layton (Pilon) and Josee (Tremblay), before he learns that he has a tumour, not have long to live.
Samuel looks to take a trip down memory lane, as he looks to face his fate. Joined by his father, he starts to make up with himself to prepare for his future.
Verdict on Death of a Ladies’ Man
Characters
Samuel O’Shea is a college professor who starts to see his life unravel. First, with his wife cheating on him, second, his ex-wife is about to get remarried and third, he is sick and doesn’t have long to live. There is plenty to this character who is left wondering where his life can go next.
Josee and Layton are his two children, they are both adults that are having their troubles in life. Ones where they can look to learn the most from their father.
Charlotte is a new woman that Samuel meets along the way. Offering him a brand-new meaning to make the most of his remaining time.
Performances
Gabriel Byrne is brilliant in the leading role, showing us how his character has taken a lot for granted and now he needs to face his decisions. In the supporting cast, everyone performs well. Bringing their characters to life to help along on the journey.
Story
The story follows a professor that sees his life turned upside down with a shocking diagnosis, leaving him a short time to live. Sending him on a journey to make up with his children and leave a legacy before he goes.
This is a nice journey movie, that will prove that life can change quickly, and you never know how much time you have left. Needing to make sure you will leave the best legacy for the people you love. It will play on the heartstrings as you wouldn’t want to see a loved one go through this.
The movie will play into the drama side of the movie, and have a few laughs, without getting caught up in them. There is also a string of seemingly random song and dance numbers, that reflect Samuel’s moment in life.
