The 26-year-old three-wheeler driver Manoj Priyankara alias Sanju, who brutally beat and killed a 15-year-old girl whom he kept as his wife, after she had been secretly taken away from   a probation home and who had then handed over her body to a hospital was remanded until November 26, after being produced at the Gampaha Court.

Police say that the three-wheeler driver in a drunken state had attacked the girl suspecting her to be having an affair with another young man.

Nadeeshi Priyangani Sathsarani was brutally attacked by the suspect in the middle of the night on Novwember 10.

Police investigations have revealed that the suspect was in love with the minor girl when she was going to school and had raped her in 2021. Although it happened with the consent of both, the Veyangoda Police arrested the suspect on July 10, 2021 due to the fact that she was a minor and produced him before the Attanagalla Court.

On that occasion, the suspect was remanded and the minor was kept on probation. Accordingly, she had been kept in a probation home located in Narahenpita. Police investigations have revealed that last January, the suspect had taken her out of this home and was residing with her at Bulathgangoda in the Bemmulla Police Division.

Had the girl’s escape from probation been reported to the Police and the Court? Has the Police conducted an investigation to find her? As such problems have been raised an investigation has been started in that regard.

The suspect had kept this minor girl in a house near his own residence. Therefore, a top Police officer stated that if the Police had launched any investigation into the girl’s escape from probation at the beginning, it would have been possible to find her.

Judicial Medical Officer at the Gampaha Hospital Dr. J.M.C.B. Gunathilaka who conducted the post-mortem into the girl’s death revealed that death was due to brain and lung damage. It was also discovered that she had been subject to assaults before.
