And cut Tavaris Jackson. Could this work out any better? The Titans are looking at Ryan Fitzpatrick as Jake Locker’s backup (bad idea) and to do so they’ve decided to cut Matt Hasselbeck.
From NBCSports: “Anyone wondering why the Titans were talking to former Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick just got their answer. The team has released a statement announcing that they were unable to reach an agreement on a restructured contract with quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and that the team will release him as a result. Hasselbeck was scheduled to make $5.5 million in 2013, a number that the team clearly felt was too much for a player who would have been a backup to Jake Locker.”
In my opinion this couldn’t have worked out any better. Fitz out, Hasselbeck a free agent and the Bills in need of someone who can actually be effective if need be. And no, I don’t believe that Tjaxx is that guy. In fact, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Hasselbeck is comfortable, or at least experienced, in playing on a team where there is a rookie that the team is grooming at the quarterback position. Hasselbeck’s also still a pretty damn good QB. One that I think could be pretty effective for this Bills team if he was the starter at the beginning of the 2013 season.
Buddy Nix needs to making this happen as we speak.
