Even if you’re having fun with your dog all the time and everything seems fine, don’t entirely forget the possibility of an emergency. In case an emergency occurs when you’re not at home, always have a printed information available that includes current vaccination records, the type and dosage of any current medications, and a rundown of your dog’s medical history filed from most current to oldest. Give a copy of this record to the person caring for your dog. Include contact information for your veterinarian as well as for an after-hours emergency clinic.

If there’s a problem when you’re home, don’t panic. If you have a plan to follow, you will save time and possibly the life of your pet. Keeping a cool head is the first step in successfully resolving an emergency. Take time to carefully assess the situation the dog emergency.
While you may see a river of blood, the cause may be as simple as a torn nail that got caught in the carpet. If youre pet ingested something potentially poisonous, take the time to note the active ingredient in the product. Wheter you deal with the National Animal Poison Control Center or a veterinary emergency clinic, the cause of the poisoning or details of the injury are critical to getting the proper treatment started as soon as possible.
