Last night, my nine year old daughter came out of her bed to tell me something. Which isn’t uncommon with my little bed time procrastinator, but this time she had a silly smile on her face and told me she heard my book on the radio.
At first I didn’t believe her, but her smile was genuine and I had been blitzing the media like crazy, so why shouldn’t the local Christian radio station announce my launch party?
Then it hit me. The local Christian radio station just announced my launch party!
Another media hit! I’m still in awe that my little novella and mystery party is getting so much media attention. (Yes, to me TWO media hits equal so much media attention!)
The other morning I was on the local news talk show plugging my mystery party I’m having Sunday. It was a fun experience despite my obvious I-don’t-know-where-to-look-because-no-one-briefed-me-on-the-camera eye fiasco. (And I JUST might share the link if I get enough commenters who promise to fast forward to 3:37!)
Okay, back on the subject. My mystery launch party…I should be nervous and worried and stressed out beyond belief by now, but I’m not! I’m still short one actor, we haven’t run through the entire production yet with everyone present, there’s food to buy, the location to decorate, and a list of other things that needing to be done.
The event’s been listed on every local web event calendar in town! And there’s two different invites out there, one says RSVP and one doesn’t. I have NO idea how many people will show up. And to top it off, there’s a good chance the media might show up for a remote taping! I should be certifiable by now, but I’m not! Why?
I think it’s because I’ve finally realized it’s pointless to worry about things I can’t control. If I focus on what I can control, like finding props and costumes and buying food, and turn the rest over to Jesus (like finding me that last minute actor or a clever way to write the character out of the play or the over all outcome of the party) then all will work together for good and I won’t go insane with worry!
I’m believing that! I’m counting on that! And ultimately, no matter what happens I’ve determined to have fun!!
I think it’s fitting that this party is beyond my control, and I’m having to surrender it to God. After all, that’s exactly what my main characters Nick Porter and Samantha Steele had to do. Their lives were spinning out of control and there was nothing left for them to do but surrender. Why shouldn’t this author have to do the same!
Surrender…even that stupid eye thing I did during my television interview! I surrender ALL! Go ahead, see for yourself!
What are you surrendering?
