Deadlocked Audiobook Recently Recorded in the San Francisco Bay AreaHere is some great news Trubies!  The audiobook of Deadlocked (the 12th novel in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series) has just been recorded at Live Oak Studio in Berkeley, California.  The book will be narrated by actress Johanna Parker who has been the voice to the past 11 books.

Priscilla Rice had this to say about Johanna narrating the books:

“It was such a trill to hear Johanna narrate the new book.  I don’t want to give anything away, but this book is packed with the action and romance Charlaine Harris writes so well.”

Live Oak Studio is the first Southern Vampire Mysteries to be recorded there.  But when Johanna was directing Alice Walker who was reading the Color Purple there in 2009 she was so impressed with the sound quality of the studio and the expertise of the stuff that she told Recorded Books.  They then chose to record Deadlocked at Live Oak Studios.

Here is what Johanna had to say about working at Live Oak Studio.

“I love working at Live Oak.  For audiobooks, unlike music, you want the sound to have a really ‘dead’ quality, so there’s no reverb or echo- just the human voice.  The engineer, James Ward, has a great ear, and he makes sure the sound is just right.”

This book took six four hours sessions to record in just one week.  The 20 hours of audio will be edited to just 10 hours.  The release date of this is expected to be May 1 which will be available on Audible.com, iTunes, Amazon, Compact Disc, and through libraries.

Johanna started to record the Sookie Stackhouse novels with book 5 in 2005 but when True Blood premiered on HBO and became such a big success she went back and recorded the previous books and keep going with the new ones being released.

It’s always interesting to see how people read the novels.
