David Beckham has announced that he would be a global brand ambassador for the DigitalBits blockchain, as well as a foray into the domain of NFTs and the metaverse.
Following a successful career with Manchester United, the footballer is expected to “communicate the initiative’s revolutionary impact” to consumers and businesses.
According to a news release about their collaboration, Beckham “will employ his huge knowledge and relationships” with other companies such as Adidas, Maserati, EA, and Diageo.
This is one of the most important celebrity endorsements a project has ever gotten in terms of money. According to DigitalBits, Beckham “has the greatest interaction of any global account,” with over 138 million online followers and 9 billion annual impressions across social networks.
In the next months, Beckham aims to launch an NFT collection on the DigitalBits blockchain, which markets itself as a greener alternative to Ethereum. ‘It’s true,’ he said, confirming the story.
“I am always keen to find new ways to connect with my fans across the world. The moment I spoke with Al and the DigitalBits team, I knew that this was a major opportunity to create new experiences for my fans online. I have always taken pride in working with the best teams and I am so excited to work on my NFT collections and more innovations in the future.”
AS Roma and Inter Milan are just two of the teams who have worked with DigitalBits in the past.
There’s something for everyone, from athletes to crypto advocates.
In a video made by DigitalBits to mark the development, Beckham kicks a virtual world that resembles a football, which then changes into a portal into the metaverse. Meanwhile, a narrator declares:
“The world is changing. The power of blockchain is creating new dimensions. We are redefining how we connect, in ways we could never have imagined.”
Beckham is then shown approaching this fabled gateway, peering inside, and then passing through.
A vast number of sports athletes, both past and current, have served as ambassadors for top crypto and blockchain companies.
Naomi Osaka, a tennis player, said earlier this week that she would purchase a stake in the FTX exchange and that as part of the deal, she would lead and develop content focused on encouraging women to enter the profession. She’ll also be compensated in cryptocurrency.
Meanwhile, a well-known UFC fighter has revealed that to avoid inflation, he would henceforth get his pay in Bitcoin. It’s unclear how much Beckham is paid for this role.
