While touring the Normandy region we made a stop at the D-Day Wings Museum where we were surprised to see this Mirage 5 amongst their collection. This reconnaissance model served with the Belgian Air Force from 1971 to 1994, replacing the Republic RF-84F Thunderflash. The Mirage 5BR was specifically developed for aerial reconnaissance and was equipped with a special nose which could incorporate different types of cameras. First flown in 1967, close to 600 Mirage 5s were produced with the Belgian order of 106 jets being license-built by SABCA in Belgium.
