It’s been a month since our Darjeeling trip and the memories are still fresh. Fortunately, after our vacation, the new variant cases started increasing, or else our trip would have been cancelled.

In this post, I will be sharing my Darjeeling trip cost from Kolkata which will help you to plan your travel budget.
We had traveled to Darjeeling in December 2021 for 3 nights/ 4 days which included Christmas Eve. Therefore, the cost was comparatively high.

1. Train journey from Kolkata to NJP (New Jalpaiguri)
We had booked a Second AC train ticket for the New Jalpaiguri Special train which runs only on Wednesday from Howrah station.
It takes 10 hours to reach NJP, but our train took 13 hours to reach.
Cost: 1500/ person
2. Share cab from NJP/Siliguri to Darjeeling Ghum
You can get a rented vehicle or shared cab from NJP to Darjeeling. We took shared cab from the Siliguri Bus stand.
Do try to take the cab from NJP instead of going to Siliguri.
Cost: 250/ person

If you are traveling by share jeeps, do remember that they make 4 people sit in the middle and back row. We were 2 people and hence we purchased 3 tickets of the middle row for a comfortable journey.
The shared cab will leave you at your nearest destination in Darjeeling. If you are staying in Sterling like us, then you can’t reach the resort with your luggage as the way to the hotel is narrow and steep uphill.
So pay extra charges to the cab driver or call the resort staff for the pick up by paying additional charges.

3. Sight-seeing offers
The cost of sight-seeing package will depend upon the places you want to visit.

Cost: Rs 2200 for 5 points. If you are visiting in the offseason, it will be less.

4. Hotel
We booked two hotels – Sterling resort in Ghum and Little Tibet resort in Mall road.
We couldn’t get a 3-night stay at Sterling and therefore booked one night stay at Little Tibet.

5. Foods
We enjoyed eating food at the local restaurants and cafes. You can read my post on Shopping and Food in Darjeeling to know in detail.
Cost: 8000 for 2 people
6. Shopping
We did shopping for Darjeeling tea from authentic stores, purchased shawls from the store located inside the Sterling resort, and bought souvenirs from the street market.
Cost: 5-7k
7. Share a cab from Darjeeling to Siliguri
The shared cab is available in front of Ramada hotel on Mall road. We purchased 3 tickets for a comfortable journey.
Cost: 400/person. Usually, it is 250Rs, but they increased the price blaming fewer vehicles’ availability.
8. Flight journey from Bagdogra airport to Kolkata
We booked the flight ticket for our return. It took 1 hour to reach Kolkata airport.
Cost: 2200/ person
