Daily Bread

By Tombasson @tombasson

He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, Lord," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." - Elijah (1 Kings 19:4)

I'm not sure if you've ever prayed a prayer like Elijah did?: "I've had enough God!"

I know I certainly have.

We all have moments in our life where everything just feels too much and we come to the end of ourselves. Perhaps, as you read this post, that is where you find yourself today?

God's response to Elijah always amazes me and brings me great comfort:

All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he travelled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. - 1 Kings 19:5-8

I love freshly baked bread. I'm sure we all do. And when Elijah was at his lowest, God through an angel rocks up and bakes him some warm bread. Not once, but twice.

God placed this verse on my heart for you today, so that you may know His provision even in the midst of trials, that you may know the truth that this journey is indeed too much for you without God, and that you may be strengthened by His daily provision. Lord, give us today our daily bread. Amen

PS: Carbs are good. Eat bread. 🙂
