The Department of Meteorology reports that Cyclonic Storm “FENGAL,” which was situated over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, made landfall over the northern Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts at 11:30 p.m. on November 30, 2024.

The system is expected to drift west-southwest at a slow pace and gradually weaken into a deep depression within the next three hours.

The storm’s impact on Sri Lanka’s weather is progressively diminishing, according to the Meteorology Department.

Weather Forecast:

  • Cloudy skies are anticipated, with periodic rain or thunderstorms expected in the Northern Province.
  • Frequent rainfall is forecasted for the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, and North-central provinces, as well as in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.
  • Isolated showers or thunderstorms may develop in other parts of the island during the evening or night.

Additionally, strong winds reaching speeds of 50-55 km/h are likely in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Central, and Southern provinces.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to minimize the risks posed by localized strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
