I’m starting to consider the best time to try Izebella on a real cup rather than her Sippy cups. She has been using a Sippy cup since 6 months and seems to love it.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends teaching children to start with regular cups between 12-15 months, and they should be ready to give up sippy cups completely by 2-3 years of age. Sippy cups are convenient and an important part of the transition from bottles to cups; but you want to avoid over-use. The AAP recommends transitioning to a two-handled open cup, like CUPPIES, as soon as your child can manage it.
I personally think 12-15 months is too young to start on a real cup. Most toddlers that age would just throw it and end up soaked in juice.
The people at 1Twokids sent Izebella one of their Cuppies
The Cuppies look like most training beakers with handles either side but inside the cup is a hidden animal.
The animal is there to encourage toddlers to drink all their juice or water as an empty cup will reveal their little friend.
The Cuppies come in four colours, each with a different animal hiding away. Izebella has an orange rabbit in her cup.
I have given the cup to Izebella empty to begin with, just to see what she makes of it. Sometimes I will add a very small amount of juice but this usually ends up all over her.
I think we will just have to keep practicing for now.
The Cuppies are made of FDA approved biodegradable plastic. It certainly feels quite strong and durable and will hopefully survive Izebella throwing it around.
Cuppies cost £7.99 and can be purchased from 1twokids
