Today Drew Weber, Alex Lamoreaux, Josh Lefever, Ian Gardner, and I set out to find the Cumberland County rarities that have been reported over the last few weeks. We left at 6 a.m. and arrived at our first destination, the Townsend’s Warbler spot, at 9 a.m.. The Townsend’s Warbler showed up about 15 minutes after we arrived at Dr. Green’s home on Pine Road. During our time there we saw the Townsend’s Warbler twice as it fed on the suet and bird seed. A good looking Pine Warbler was also present at the feeding station

Soon after we ventured over to Mud Level Road just outside of Shippensburg. Upon arriving we were directed towards the Snowy Owl sitting on the ground on the southeast side of Mud Level Road. We got great views of the owl before we headed off to look for the Prairie Falcon. After running into flocks of Horned Larks and a few American Pipits we finally found the Prairie Falcon along Mud Level Road. We initially saw it perched on a telephone pole but it flew shortly after we spotted it. The bird was relocated perched on its favored snag along Mud Level Road. This trip resulted in me seeing 3 Pennsylvania lifers in one day, which hasn’t happened in quite a while! Here is my best digiscoped picture of the Snowy Owl.
