Cuisines of the Coast at Aloft

By Rohit Dassani

Aloft at Cessna Business Park, Bengaluru brings yet another food festival at ‘Nook’ and this time it is from the Coast’s of India. The food festival is called ‘Cuisines of the Coast’ and it runs between 15th to 26th May 2017. What you experience are intricate coastal flavors of Goan, Kerela, Maharashtrian, Andhra, Malvani and Bengali cuisines. My last experience at Aloft with the Asian Food Festival was stellar, read here.

This buffet spread at Nook is truly immense with emphasis on both vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes. Catering to the global crowd at Aloft the spread included atleast a handful of different cuisines apart from Coastal. To keep things in perspective I tried Mediterranean, Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Rajasthani and many many more! And the best part is the fact that the menu keeps changing everyday.

We tried the house special Mango Cucumber and Coconut salad. Though the salad was simple but damn flavorful from a curdy sauce. The salad had a mild tempering and is great to try in the summers. The deep-fried Cauliflower coastal style were delicious. We also tried many more appetizers from the buffet like the Jodhpuri Mirchi, Mezze Platter, Pizza among others.

For the main course we had the Papaya curry along with Malabar parathas. The Papaya curry was made with curry leaves and tempered with mustard. The curry was just awesome, don’t miss this. The other curries we had were the Mushroom and the coastal dal along with Red wild rice. What is really amazing is the fact that each of the dishes had a unique taste. There are more than 20 desserts in this buffet. For the desserts we had flavored rashogulla, Anjeer cake, Banana Pie, pastries, halwas, icecreams. The Banana Pie was just delicious and so were the house rashogullas.

Chef Sandeep and his team did a fantastic job in bringing out the flavors and familiarizing the people of Bangalore on the coastal dishes.
