On Friday night neon headed to Liverpool to find out what all the hype was surrounding the Cubanisto secret parties seen cropping up over Facebook and social media. The bizarre yet strangely alluring accounts on its website stated that the House of Mask parties had been happening at undisclosed venues across the UK, but there was little other in the way of information.

Set in an old warehouse in the Baltic Triangle- Liverpool’s answer to Shoreditch or Dalston- this House of Mask party turned out to be more than just a celebration of rum-flavoured beer. It was a combination of creepy, creative and cool and probably the most surreal and enjoyable night out we’ve had for a long time.

From the spooky David Lynch-esque door girls, to the winding hallways, tiny door frames and better-than-convincing masked hosts, Cubanisto’s night of festivity was set up to explore the mystique and intrigue around the brand which it definitely achieved. Upon entering, guests tiptoed down the red-lit chambers, exiting into a full-blown party. It could be described as like climbing down the rabbit hole to surface into a frenzied fiesta of fluorescent-laced art, dancing, great music and delicious rum flavoured beer.

While a DJ warmed up, people were invited to take their own masks and explore the various sites throughout the space including street food style stalls, a photobooth and street art adorning the length of the warehouse. Skull shaped jigsaw pieces were handed out by masked staff members, encouraging guests to find the missing parts from other partygoers. This led to keys that led to prizes and of course- a load of fun. An eruption of smoke and strobe lighting brought the crowd to the dance floor at ‘Nightrise’. A full set from the In Crowd followed; a collective of DJs and creative minds including Killa Kela and Ricki Hall who ensured plenty of dancing went on until the small hours. Cubanisto proved not only was it able to portray the character and attitude of the brand through the combination of art, music and food seen on Friday, but it showed its House of Mask parties are something to get truly excited about!

Cubanisto’s infamous events have appropriated a number of amazing venues throughout the year, but their immersive House of Mask parties haven’t finished yet. The next one is being hosted at a secret venue in Birmingham on 17th October, and there are whispers about an underground Halloween party too. Check out Cubanisto on Facebook or Twitter for their latest adventures.
