According to data from March,the most U.S. trademark applications will be filed in 2022, with 1,078 for NFTs, 604 forcryptocurrencies, and 759 for the Metaverse.
Since January, there have beenmore U.S. trademarks filed for cryptocurrencies, nonfungible tokens (NFTs), Web3, and the Metaverse than there were in 2021.
Intellectual property lawyer Mike Kondoudis said on Tuesday that as of Aug. 31, people and businesses had filed more than 3,600 trademark applications for cryptocurrencies and services related to cryptocurrencies with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In 2021, only 3,516 trademark applications were filed for cryptocurrencies and services related to
cryptocurrencies. Kondoudis also said that the number of NFT applications had gone up even more, from 2,087 in 2021 to more than 5,800 in 2022 and that the number of Metaverse or Web3 trademark filings had more than doubled, from 1,866 in 2021 to 4,150 as of August 2022.
He said: So far in 2022 over 5800 trademark apps have been filed with the USPTO for NFTs (and related goods/services)

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, disclosed in March that the business was getting ready to make NFTs available on Instagram.

Following the filing of a lawsuit against MetaBirkins founder Mason Rothschild for allegedly making money from the sale of NFTs displaying the company’s Birkin brand name, luxury brand Hermès announced on September 1 that it had applied for a trademark in the U.S. for use of its name in the Metaverse, NFTs, and virtual currency. Also, in 2022, Meta, Formula One, Mastercard, McDonald’s, Gatorade, and the U.S. Space Force, along with other big companies in and out of the crypto space, all made filings with the USPTO that hinted at virtual products or involvement with crypto and blockchain.
