Crazy Simple DIY Dishwasher Detergent

By Savvybrown @savvybrownblog

The last time I talked about making my own dishwasher soap, I suggested that you use Kool Aid (because of the citric acid). But since then, I have found an even SIMPLER DIY Dishwashing Powder for you to mix up. I actually mixed this up when I ran out of both Kool-Aid AND the Method dishwashing tabs I was using. The best part? It only takes 3 ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tbsp Kosher Salt
  • 1 tbsp Liquid Dishwashing Soap (I used this brand, but you can use whatever you have)
  • 3 tbsps white vinegar

Directions

You’re only going to use the large dishwasher compartment and the rinse agent compartment for this. First, pour the liquid dishwashing soap into the large container, followed by the baking soda and salt. Next, (and this part is MANDATORY), pour the white vinegar into the rinse agent dispenser. You HAVE to do this, because if there is any extra soda or salt on anything, the vinegar dissolves it during the rinse cycle. (It gets your dishwasher pretty clean too!) Run for a full cycle as usual.

This works great on ceramic, glass and silverware. I don’t put my pots and pans or good knives in the dishwasher usually, so I can’t really comment on how well this cleans them. But everything else cleans up great!
