DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SHUTS DOWN SEVERAL CURBSIDE OPERATORS

Area bus companies are pleased with a recent U.S. Department of Transportation-driven shutdown of several curbside bus operators.

The department’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration shut down Apex Bus Inc. and I-95 Coach Inc. of New York and New Century Travel Inc. of Philadelphia and 26 bus operations those three corporations oversaw, including New Egg Bus Inc. and Asia Tours Inc. based out of State College, for “imminent hazards to public safety,” a press release from the department stated.

American Bus Association President and CEO Peter Pantuso said many of the companies were operating in and out of New York, in particular Chinatown.

The curbside operators have a “much higher percentage of accidents and issues,” than other operators, Fullington Tours Vice President Milt Weisman said. Fullington Tours operates out of Clearfield and State College.
