COVID-19: New Record in Iran with 221 Dead in 24 Hours

(Tehran) Iran announced on Thursday a new record for mortality from coronavirus, the fourth in eleven days in this country where the epidemic has been gaining ground for several weeks.

“Unfortunately, in the past 24 hours, we have lost 221 of our compatriots because of COVID's disease – 19, the death toll has now been reached 12 305, “Said Sima Sadat Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, during a televised press briefing.

The Islamic Republic, which announced its first cases of SARS-CoV-2 virus on 19 February , is by far the most affected country in the Near and Middle East.

“The number of [nouveaux] patients identified [depuis mercredi] is 2079”, indicated M me Lari. The total of officially confirmed cases of COVID – 19 in Iran now stands at 250 458.

Faced with the resurgence of the disease, the authorities have made it mandatory to wear a mask in covered public places and plan to impose new restrictions in the provinces most affected by the disease.

To stem the coronavirus “requires the help of you, the dear people, by listening to our health advice”, said M me Lari before renewing her regular call to wear a mask and respect for social distancing.
