COVID-19: Nearly 597,000 Dead Worldwide

(Paris) The pandemic of the new coronavirus has caused at least 520 715 dead worldwide since the WHO office in China reported the outbreak of the disease in late December, according to a report drawn up by AFP from official sources on Saturday at 7 a.m.

More than 14 66 508 cases of infection were officially diagnosed in 158 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic, including at least 7 683 85 are today considered to be cured.

This number of diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a fraction of the actual number of contaminations. Some countries only test severe cases, others use testing as a priority for tracing, and many poor countries have limited screening capacity.

On Friday, 6587 new deaths and 245 508 new cases have been identified worldwide. The countries that have registered the most new deaths in their latest reports are Brazil with 1057 new deaths, Chile (1057) and the United States (927).

The United States is the most affected country in terms of both deaths and cases, with 131 266 death for 3 647 715 cases identified, according to Johns Hopkins University count. At least 1 100 204 people were declared cured.

After the United States, the most affected countries are Brazil with 77 849 dead for 2 046 328 case, UK with 451 119 dead (293 239 case), Mexico with 037 310 dead (331 298 case) , and Italy with 35 24 dead (243 967 case).

Among the countries hardest hit, Belgium is the one that deplores the greatest number of deaths compared to its population, with 85 death for 85 00 0 inhabitants , followed by the United Kingdom (61), Spain (58), Italy (58), and Sweden (48).

China (excluding the territories of Hong Kong and Macao) officially counted a total of 78 644 case (14 new between Friday and Saturday), including 4634 deaths (0 new), and 78 758 healings.

Europe totaled Saturday at 7 a.m. 204 807 death for 2 923 849 cases, Latin America and the Caribbean 148 483 death (3 710 335 case), the United States and Canada 148 131 death (3 757 238 case), Asia 046 204 Death (1 999 331 case), the Middle East 14 276 death (987 38 case), the Africa 13 999 death (683 596 case), and Oceania 147 death (11 028 case).

This assessment was carried out using data collected by AFP offices from the competent national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO). Due to corrections by the authorities or late publication of the data, the increase figures on 22 Hours may not exactly match those posted the day before.
