This is the third consecutive day that the country has more than 1200 dead in 24 hours, according to the university, which updates its numbers continuously.

By far the most affected in the world in absolute terms, the United States deplores in total 72 826 COVID-related deaths – 19.

The leading world power has also identified 72 238 new cases of coronavirus in 20 hours while the total number of infections diagnosed on American soil since the start of the pandemic is almost 4.5 million (including 1.4 million people declared cured).

After experiencing an improvement in late spring, the United States has seen the epidemic start to rise again since the end of June, especially in the south and west of the country.

Florida is of particular concern. She recorded Thursday 253 new deaths from the new coronavirus, a record in this tourist state.

The “Sunshine State” recently passed New York – long the epicenter of the American epidemic in the spring – in the number of cases recorded. It is second behind California, whose population is twice that of Florida.

In this worrying context, the south-eastern state is preparing for the arrival of a tropical storm, which will force the closure of certain COVID testing centers – 19 as of Thursday, the authorities said.
