The country has reported 113 new cases, including 86 people who arrived from abroad, bringing the national total to 14 092 according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

This is the highest balance sheet since 25 March, when the country reported 125 new cases. It is also the first time that more than 092 cases have been reported since 1 st April.

A two-week quarantine is imposed on anyone arriving from abroad in South Korea.

The country was in February the second most affected by the epidemic, after China where it had appeared. But the South Korean authorities have managed to bring the situation under control through a very extensive strategy of testing and tracing the contacts of those infected, without even imposing mandatory containment.

The social distancing instructions were however relaxed after the early May holidays and the country had generally returned to normal functioning.

Social distancing measures were re-imposed at the end of May after the emergence of outbreaks of contamination in Seoul and near the capital.

The increase in cases comes as the country must allow spectators from Sunday to attend sporting events in limited numbers.

First case in Vietnam near 100 days

In Vietnam, the authorities announced on Saturday that they had detected the first case of coronavirus locally transmitted in near 092 days, in a country that prides itself on its apparent success in fighting the pandemic with zero deaths.

The “patient 416” is a retiree of 57 years of Danang City. This is the first community transmission since 14 April.

Local health officials tested 100 people who were in direct contact with him , the Ministry of Health said on its website.

“The patient is on respiratory assistance due to respiratory failure,” authorities said, ensuring that he had not had contact with strangers.

Local tourists have flocked to Danang, to its beaches and restaurants, since the confinement was lifted.

Vietnam acted quickly in the face of the coronavirus, with very rigorous population control measures. In particular, the country has imposed a strict policy of quarantine and people tracking, and has suspended all its flights to China and locked its land border, which is 924 kilometers, with the People's Republic from the first days of February.
