CoverGirl's First Male Brand Ambassador Gets The Whole Company In Trouble With Ignorant Africa Tweet!

CoverGirl may have hit a slight speed bump with their first CoverBoy.
Just last October, James Charles made headlines when he was named the first male brand ambassador for the the female-named company.

But the 17-year-old beauty vlogger’s spokesperson status may be in jeopardy thanks to a Twitter joke that wasn’t exactly what one looks for in a spokesperson.
Commenting on his feelings about a class trip to South Africa, James wrote in a now-deleted Tweet:

Eep. Pretty ignorant.
Africa is actually clear of Ebola as of 2016 per the World Health Organization, and anyway this is such a very sheltered way of thinking — and not the type of sentiment to joke about.
Frankly, it’s this type of thinking about other parts of the world that allows people to get elected on platforms of building walls…

It is kiiiinda making fun of himself, so at least it’s clear he KNOWS how bad the initial thought was. But maybe instead of laughing off that thought, James, you should just quietly try to be more woke next time.
In any case, Twitter was not having the teen’s self commentary.
While there were those who defended James, others decried his ignorance, some even saying they would boycott CoverGirl until he was removed as ambassador:

I will no longer support your company as long as he’s on the campaign. This was stereotypical & degrading to Africa. @COVERGIRL @COVERGIRL pic.twitter.com/RpgMp1lqfg

go. He should learn that actions have consequences. Hope @COVERGIRL does the right thing or I guess I’ll be taking my money elsewhere.

and why isn’t #JamesCharlesIsOverParty trending?!?! #JamesCharles #covergirl

James quickly deleted the Tweet and put out this quick apology:

I am extremely sorry. Regardless of my intentions, words have consequences. I take full responsibility and will learn and do better.
— James Charles (@jamescharles) February 16, 2017
But that did NOT help his situation…

Shortly afterward, James posted a less manufactured apology:

Less manufactured but a little messy…

ACTUAL, GENUINE, apology as soon as physically possible. I have a million things in my head right now. I am sorry and want to fix it somehow

Hmm. Are YOU willing to forgive the teen for his ignorance? Or do you think CoverGirl should drop him?
Or both?? Let us know in the comments (below)!
