Court Order to Check Bank Accounts of St. Anthony’s Girls’ School, Katugastota Principal

The Fraud Investigation Unit of the Kandy Police has obtained a court order to enable them to get a report on the bank accounts of St. Anthony’s Girls’ School, Katugastota principal from the Central Bank in relation to the alleged use of forged documents in the admission of children to the intermediate classes of the school.

The Additional Magistrate has given the relevant order after the police presented the matter to the court regarding the need to obtain a detailed report, related to the principal’s national identity card number in banks and financial institutions, if any.

The case in connection with this incident was taken up for hearing on Wednesday (14) in the presence of Kandy Additional Magistrate Mohammed Rafi. On this occasion the suspect named Sarathchandra Dassanayake who has been remanded regarding preparing false documents for parents when admitting children to school, was presented in an identification parade and five persons who appeared as guardians of children identified the suspect. The Additional Magistrate who rejected the request for bail made by attorney S. B. Ratnayake who represented the suspect ordered that the suspect be remanded once again until June 28.

Education Ministry Additional Secretary Hemantha Premaratne had submitted a complaint to the Fraud Investigation Division that 18 students had been admitted to the intermediate classes of St. Anthony’s Girls’ School using fake documents prepared by using his signature, letterheads and official seal. In relation to this complaint, the police have obtained a sample of signature of the Additional Secretary, letterheads and his official seal. The police have also obtained an order to get a report from the Government Analyst to ascertain whether the signatures and official seals contained in the suspect documents are forged or not.

Sub-InspectorAttanayake and Police Sergeant (37262) Hettiarachchi submitted the facts to the court on the instructions of Officer-In-Charge of the Fraud Investigation Division, Chief Inspector M. W. S. Uvindasiri.
