New York-via-Los Angeles singer-songwriter Cotillon (Jordan Corso) has shared the sublime ‘Memories (of a seaside vertical city)’ – the second single to be taken from his forthcoming third album ‘Cruiser’ (out on 15 May via Anniversary and Dinosaur City Records).
The album was written while Jordan was working in an A&R job that took him between China and Japan. He spent his evenings holed up recording demos and wondering ‘how did I get here?’ while also longing for some of the home comforts. ‘Memories (of a seaside vertical city)’ was written while he was staying on the 51st floor of a tower in the center of Hong Kong. Having a fear of heights meant even sleeping was extremely uncomfortable and dizzying: ‘It felt like I was in a spaceship looking down different desire lines, fantasizing about where they may end up’.
The sweet two-minute song captures some of these thoughts as Jordan laments the fact he’s been sat alone all summer long with the stereo constantly on and how there are ‘people around me kissing on the beach. It’s hard to believe that used to be me’. He then looks back on some of his favorite memories of this time with bittersweet fondness and a fine falsetto while the music recalls blissed-out acts like Washed Out or Field Medic.
