Twitter has told staff that they can work from home "forever" if they wish, as the company looks to the future after the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision came when the social media giant claimed that his work from home measures during the blockade were a success.
But he also said it would allow workers to return to the office if they chose it when it reopens.
Earlier this month, Google and Facebook stated that their staff can work from home until the end of the year.
Twitter said: "The past few months have shown that we can make that job work. So if our employees have a role and a situation that allows them to work from home and want to continue doing it forever, we will make it happen."
The announcement was described as "a defining moment" by a digital innovation expert.
The Twitter blog went on to say that for those who wish to return to the Twitter office, the company "will be their warm and welcoming self with some additional precautions."
The San Francisco-based company employs over 4,000 people in its global offices.
It has allowed employees to work from home since March and does not plan to reopen its offices before September.
Sree Sreenivasan, Loeb's visiting professor of Digital Innovation at Stony Brook University School of Journalism, said it was "news that defines the era".
"Some people may not take it seriously like Twitter, but we can learn a lot from Silicon Valley about job flexibility. There was a mentality that working from home stole from the boss and work in the office was more important.
"But people are showing that they can be much more productive and do homework. Many people tell me they are working more at home and are exhausted," he added.
Companies around the world are studying how to reopen offices gradually by introducing new measures of social distancing.
