Coronavirus: Now Black Marketing of Mask and Hand Sanitizer Will Outweigh

Posted on the 14 March 2020 by Indianjagran

Concerned over the shortage in the supply of masks and hand sanitizers amid the growing outbreak of Coronavirus covid-19, the government has decided to keep both these items within the purview of the Essential Commodities Act.

This order has been issued till 30 June. The Government has amended the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Masks and hand sanitizers are either not available with most retailers in the market or are difficult to find at exorbitant prices.

Under the Essential Commodities Act, the government may ask them to increase production capacity and smooth the supply of these goods after consultation with the manufacturers.

Apart from this, the government has also issued an advisory under the Legal Metrology Act. Under this, the government can ensure the sale of both goods at the maximum retail price.
