 Writing Copy that Sells

I’ll bet you think copywriting is just for your sales page, right? Think a little about it a bit. Where else are you trying to convert and convice?  Yes, your social media!  When you are using social media to market, each platform could use some good copywriting.

Social Media is about selling yourself to an audience. That’s right! You give people some insight into who you are and what your company is about all over the web!

Copywriting Tips for Online Marketing

Get Straight to the Point

Long drawn out sentences are a bore, and can make your visitor quickly lose interest. Online people are surfing from site to site.  They can be gone “before quick can get ready”! Don’t risk losing them by too much yacking. Be direct, to the point, and  easy to follow.

Be Real and Tell the Truth

Do not sell with hype. Your visitors will run for the hills thinking SCAM. If it’s NOT  “the best thing since sliced bread” do not pretend it is. Don’t try to sell something you can not deliver. If you do word, will get around. There is no better brand fan than a happy return client! Skip the  baloney and serve up a slice of facts.

Break It Up

If you are writing a sales page or a blog post, make sure you break up your copy with white space, imagines, bold titles and headlines, bullet points or numbered lists. A giant block of text is hard to follow and tends to make readers zone out! If they nod off you lose.

Talk in first Person

Let your reader what they will gain by using your product or idea. Write as though you were speaking directly to the person reading your copy.  Don’t talk theory or use third person.  Let them know you are talking about them with “You will”, “You are”, Your,  or similar expressions. Then tell them just what you are solving for them or giving then with no strings.

Remember your Call to Action

After you have their attention, tell them what to do next. You simply say what you want them to do.  Leave a comment, share this post, or purchase my product here. This is a straight forward calls to action. You can’t leave them hanging or guessing what to do next.

 Deliver on Your Promise

After people “do” what you ask, make sure you hold up your end.  Pretty simple advice, I know but the follow up is as important as the copy. If you deliver on your promises, you’ll see greater conversion and happy return customers.

Good Copy can be used in more places than you think!  Here’s a list of just a few of the places I use and reuse copy.

1.  Sales letters
2.  Articles or blog posts
3.  Buttons
4. Banner ads
5. Tweets
6. Facebook posts
7. Graphics

This sounds like a lot of work and a ton of material to create. If you ‘re smart, you can repurpose most of your great copy for more than just a sales page. Got a great sales letter? Why not turn it into a blog post.  Use your best headline and turn it into a tweet and a Facebook post.  A great how-to-article will make an excellent Slideshare presentation! You get where this is going?  Recycling great copy writing will save you a ton of time!
