Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday (30) ordered a Police Constable of the Jaffna Division Special Investigation Unit to be remanded until February 13, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. one million from a person with the promise of helping him during legal proceedings.
The Bribery officials had arrested the constable after a Manager of a private company in the North had alerted them about the request for a bribe.
The Constable had been arrested while accepting the bribe. As the Commission said that the investigation has not been completed, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded until February 13.
