May 2014

This was my first trip to Spain and the Museo del Aire. This excellent facility has six exhibition galleries and over 150 aircraft on display. There are two Ju 52 aircraft on display, both postwar license-built by the Spanish firm CASA from 1945-1952.  106 were produced in Spain of the over 4,800 built in total.  The aircraft’s unusual corrugated duralumin metal skin, pioneered by Junkers, strengthened the whole structure.  This museum is located at Cuatro Vientos Airport which was inaugurated in 1911 as Spain’s first military airfield.
