Coal is a little more common than ironstone and can be found in similar places to iron. Venture up to a plateau or into the mountains and you will most likely find it while searching for other materials. But if you are looking for coal, find black rocks
Conan Exiles Coal Map – Uses
There are a lot of uses and recipes that require coal, but the most popular, is to make Tar
x25 Coal = x1 Tar
And Tar is very popular because you can make hardened steel with tar:
1st > x2 Tar + x1 Brimstone = x1 Steelfire
2nd > x5 Iron Bar + x1 Steelfire = x1 Steel Bar
3rd > x1 Steel Bar + x1 Black Ice = x1 Hardened Steel Bar
