Taste Cocktails is a unique monthly subscription and all about cocktails: therefore just my thing.
Each month comes a new box full of ingredients to make cocktails at home and yes the boxes do contain the alcohol along with other ingredients. The boxes also come with easy instructions plus a little bit of information on the drinks.
It costs £29.00 per month which includes postage. If your lacking the cocktail equipment at home then a Mixologist kit can also be purchased.
The kits can be purchased as a subscription or a one off. Each box contains a selection of recipes and all the main liquid ingredients you need to make them (up to 6 cocktails per box, plus a little extra). The only things that may be needed is a little fruit (lemon/lime slice) or for some cocktails an egg or bit of sugar. (Usually basic things found in most cupboards/fridges)
For my review box I went for “The Old Fashioned Kit” and should also add that this box and other previous kits can also be purchased subject to availability.
In this box is
•Buffalo Trace Straight Bourbon (x2 100ml)
•Marachino cherries in syrup
•Angostura Bitters (10ml x 2
•Sebor Absinthe 10ml
And yes you read that right I have absinthe. Very strong stuff that all the teenagers seem to rave about. Best keep this little bottle well away from kiddies.
With these ingredients I was able t make 2 different cocktails The Old Fashioned and The Sazerac. None of which I was previously familiar with. Luckily I already have a cocktail shaker, measure and stirrer to hand and the creation process is pretty straight forward just a case of pouring, mixing, shaking and then the best bit which is drinking.
To make my cocktails I just needed some sugar, lemon and ice. They were very strong. I’m not usually a bourbon drinker and these definitely warmed up the ole chest. If I drank more than one of these each I would probably be on the floor. I managed to make 2 of each cocktail so 4 in total and still have some of the ingredients left to maybe drink alone or mix with something else.
It’s well worth a try if you like cocktails and also makes a nice one off gift. The drinks and recipes change every month so you are guaranteed new drinks each time.
