If you ever played the Yahtzee dice game as a child then this game may seem a little familiar.
Coloured Yatzy is from Paul Lamond Games.
There are no dice in this game. Instead of dice there are Yatzy Prisms.
There are 8 prisms in total and each Prism has 4 coloured ends which look like small balls.
Also included in the game are the rules and lots of playing sheets.
Each column on the playing sheet is one game and each sheet is enough for 5 games. The sheets are also printed on both sides. Enough for many fun games.
Playing is easy, very similar to the dice Yahtzee.
I find it best to put the prisms in a cup rather than holding them all in hand. To play you simply roll the prisms as you would dice. Each player has up to 3 rolls per turn. Players can then set aside any Prisms they want to keep after each turn and then re roll any other prisms to try and get the combination they need. Instead of matching numbers on a dice the players match the colours on the prisms.
The Prism combinations are also similar to the original game and include 2,3,4,5,6,7 of a kind, full house, and Yatzy which is all 8 of the same color. A few added combinations include double 3s & 4s, uneven split and a Call it round which is like a guess round. There are bonus points too for getting so many points.
Each player has turns until all the sheets are full. If a player can not get a combination then they have to mark one off as a zero and the winner is the highest scorer.
I do love classic games, or games similar to what I played. This is a game that is really good for evenings. When kids are in and just before bedtime. It’s also a good game for taking away on breaks or holidays. It does not take up much space at all and only consists of a few parts.
My kids took to it pretty well. I did have to help them both out at first with the prism combinations as there are quite a few and with 8 prisms to make with it can get confusing. Jordanna was quite confused with it all but slowly getting the hang of it.
The game is aimed at children aged 6 and over so Jordanna is on the lower age end.
