Color of the Year by Benjamin Moore: Lemon Sorbet

By Simone Design Blog @HomeSpire

Recently Pantone introduced their color of the year to be Emerald Green, a jewel toned color. Now Benjamin Moore, a leading authority in household paints, has debuted their own 2013 color of the year: lemon sorbet 2019-60! These two colors are so different from each other! The first is very vibrant and bold and the other subdued and soothing.  Here is what lemon sorbet looks like:

This color is described by Benjamin Moore as the perfect transitional color between the saturated colors seen in today’s home furnishings and the softer, lighter pastels that are emerging for 2013. Benjamin Moore’s senior interior designer Sonu Mathew noted that “It’s the perfect partner for the emerging palette of freshened, polished pastels that promise to be favorites in the coming year. Additionally, it’s the ideal transition color as we move from the more vibrant spectrum and mid-to-deep tone hues that we’ve been experiencing in home furnishings and fashions.”

I’ve noticed that home decor stores and catalogs are beginning to showcase their spring color collection and I see that pastels are everywhere. I think that lemon sorbet, paired with other pastels, will brighten up any room in your home, whether it is used on a wall or on an accessory. Because of its lighter tones, you will feel comfortable being in an environment with this color for long periods of time. It’ll be like a breath of fresh air: calming and soothing. If you’re looking for a color to put you in a great mood, lemon sorbet may be just what you need!

I love this kitchen, with all its natural light and architectural details! The use of dark colored wood cabinetry on the island gives the lemon sorbet a much richer look. They go together beautifully!

Admittedly, yellow as a wall color is not for everyone. For some, it’s a color that can be extremely uninviting to be around for long periods of time. Make a conscious effort to choose the right shade of yellow for the space you’re working with. Make sure that you have a lot of natural light and that you use other shades in the same tone to go with it. Consider, too, using darker and more subdued colors to go with lemon sorbet; this makes the yellow seem less bright and more pleasing to the eye. If you’re unsure about using lemon sorbet as a wall color, try using it as an accent or on a painted furnishing.  This will still brighten up your space.

What a gorgeous room! The lemon sorbet in the chairs and the hint of lemon sorbet in the drapes just welcomes you in to take a look. Very elegant!

Although pastel shades make a room calming and bright, you may want your space to have a more vibrant look. Use strong accent colors to go with a lemon sorbet shade.

What do you think? Can you see yourself using lemon sorbet in your home for 2013? I can, but I like it best on an accessory.
