Most of the individuals originate from the suburbs or Hyderabad, namely Banjara Hills, Madhapur and In an operation that happened last week, security personnel in Hyderabad, India were able to arrest 25 persons for making cocaine purchases.

The arrest of the individuals happened prompted officials from the Excise and Prohibition department to carry out an analysis of contents in the mobile phones of the culprits.

After a careful investigation, it was revealed that students, techies and children from well off backgrounds are responsible for the spiraling cocaine business in the region.

Statement from Assistant Excise Superintendent

In a statement, the assistant superintendent of the Excise and Prohibition department, N Anji Reddy, told a local media outlet that they looked at all the phone records including standard SMS, call logs and even WhatsApp data.

In the process of carrying out the investigation and analyzing the information, data obtained from a cell phone belonging to Abdul Hameed, who stands accused, gave a clear picture of those involved in the cocaine business.

Most of the individuals originate from the suburbs or Hyderabad, namely Banjara Hills, Madhapur and Jubilee Hills. Then there are about two or three who came from Secunderabad, a city neighboring Hyderabad.

The assistant superintendent also told the media outlet that the cases had been forwarded to the Jubilee Hills Excise station for further investigation.

The reason is that this will enable them to determine who is responsible for the aiding the trafficking and distribution of the drug.

Smuggling of Cocaine

According to credible sources, Hameed was arrested while in possession of cocaine worth Rs 7 lakh, which is approximately $10,000.

An officer involved in the investigation said that he is a travel agent, and it is in his work that he got to know of a man known as Max who is currently based in Goa, but hails from Karnataka.

Max was involved in the cocaine business by acting as a conduit between people in different areas and would travel to Hyderabad after 15 days to supply his customers with the drug before going back.

So it is in one of his visits that he met Hameed who, together with some of his associates, got involved in the trade by selling what Max had brought with him from Goa.

So for every trip that Max made, he left Hameed with 70-100 grams of cocaine.

Because of Max's involvement, the police officer said that teams would be sent to Goa to trace him in a bid to bring down the ring.

The Dark Web Used to Acquire Drugs

For Max, there are no official reports suggesting that he used the dark web to perpetuate the vice but there are various incidences of people in India using the avenue to obtain multiple types of drugs.

For example, Dream Market gained its position as the top darknet market last year, and ever since, its reputation has grown to attract clients from all over the world.

In India, a man known as Pravan working as a delivery associate, used the site to buy LSD for resale.

Then in July this year, the Prohibition and Excise officials were able to arrest two people going by the names Praneet and Sathvik for peddling LSD and Malana cream.

Praneet is a degree student whereas Sathvik is a university graduate.

Praneet's arrest came first while security personnel were doing routine surveillance at Kandikonda.

So when they stumbled upon him, they searched him only to discover that he had five LSD blots which he wanted to sell.

It was after some questioning that Praneet revealed more details that led to the arrest of Sathvik where more LSD blots were seized.

Apparently, the drugs were shipped via the postal service from an unidentified individual in the North India state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&M).

Sathvik was the mastermind, and he would use the dark web to buy the drugs.

After they have been delivered to his drop address, he would then give some of it to people like Praneet and other unnamed associates who would then sell it.

Cocaine as a Symbol of Status in India

As a hard drug, cocaine is a habitual product whose demand is not affected by an increase in the prices.

Because of this, addicts end up spending whatever amount they can to have their hands on it.

Over the years, the drug has been considered as a status symbol because of its scarcity and a high price tag that only a few can afford.

Also, for this reason, those fond of using it are considered to have achieved high social status.
