Statistics published by the Central Road Transport and Highways Department at least say so.

CNG vehicle sales up 52%

The price variation of CNG with petrol diesel has helped the sales of gas-powered vehicles and auto-rickshaws grow at a significant rate, according to a section of experts. According to central statistics, around 1.8 lakh Indians will buy CNG vehicles by 2023. Whereas, the total sales of such vehicles in 2022 was 1.18 lakh units.

According to experts, apart from the price difference of CNG and petrol-diesel, gas-powered cars get comparatively higher mileage. Also its maintenance cost is low. That is why its demand has increased so much. CNG price in India is Rs 77.5 per kg. Where one liter of petrol and diesel costs 96.42 taka and 92.1 taka respectively. Again, a car gives an average mileage of 28 km on one kg of CNG fuel.

In this context, a car dealer in Ahmedabad said, “The cost of vehicle maintenance is increasing due to increase in fuel and car prices. Added to the extra cost are various duties and service charges. So many people are buying CNG cars to reduce the cost of transportation. Again, manufacturers are making CNG vehicles more technologically advanced, due to which the demand is seen to increase.”
