Clinton / Sanders - The Current Democratic Delegate Count (This photo of Sanders and Clinton is from cnn.com.)
The race for the Democratic presidential nomination is coming to an end. There are six states, two territories, and the District of Columbia left to vote. Here is the remaining schedule:
U.S. Virgin Islands..........June 4th
Puerto Rico..........June 5th
New Jersey..........June 7th
North Dakota..........June 7th
South Dakota..........June 7th
New Mexico..........June 7th
Montana..........June 7th
California..........June 7th
District of Columbia..........June 14th
And here is the current delegate count (according to Bloomberg Politics):
PRIMARY/CAUCUS DELEGATES
Clinton...............1768
Sanders...............1494
difference...............274
TOTAL DELEGATES
Clinton...............2293
Sanders...............1533
difference...............760
There are 939 delegates remaining to be allocated. Hillary Clinton only needs 90 more delegates to clinch the nomination. Bernie Sanders needs 850 more delegates.
Bernie Sanders has his eye on delegate rich California to boost his chances. California has over 500 delegates. But the race is going to be over before the polls close in California. The Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico will get Clinton very close to the needed 2383 delegates. Then New Jersey will put her over the top. The delegates she wins in North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico, Montana, and California will just pad her delegate total -- and a week later she'll get more delegates from the District of Columbia.
This race is as good as over, and on June 7th it will officially be over -- and it doesn't even matter who wins those states and territories. Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic presidential nominee.
