Clinton Leads Trump By 32 Points Among Millennial Voters
The Millennials are the largest generation in the United States -- passing the Baby Boomers a couple of years ago (75.4 million Millennials to 74.9 million Baby Boomers). That makes them a very important segment of the voting population. And it turns out that they overwhelmingly prefer Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in this election -- by a huge 32 points. Trump is doing worse among Millennials than he does among women, and almost as bad as he does among Blacks and Hispanics.
Trump had been hoping to get some of the Millennials who had supported Bernie Sanders (who was the obvious choice of this group). That isn't happening though. Clinton is getting nearly 3 out of 4 Millennial voters (72%), while Trump is getting only 11%.
The chart above was made from a new USA Today / Ipsos Poll -- done between August 4th and 10th of a random national sample of 1,539 voters aged 18 to 34, with a margin of error of 4.6 points.
The one fly in the ointment for Democrats is that traditionally younger voters don't vote in as large a percentage as older voters (with seniors voting in the largest percentage). Democrats will need to make a serious effort to change that this year. If they can get large numbers of Millennials to vote this year, the presidential election could be a blow-out.
