Clever Hacks for A Tiny Kitchen
A small kitchen doesn’t have to pose big problems. While you may be limited when it comes to storage and counter space, there are still ways you can enjoy the heart of your home. The solution lies in clever hacks that’ll help you to make the most of your culinary space. Here are a few favorites from our team of space-saving geniuses.

1. Make Full Use of Cupboard Doors
We often take what we don’t see for granted. In this instance, it’s the inner lining of our cupboards. For example, you can:
- Line the interior of a cupboard door with a corkboard to pin up shopping lists, notes, and small containers.
- Add a pegboard with hooks to the doors to hold smaller pots, frying pans, and utensils.
- Add narrow shelves to hold spices, condiments, and cleaning products.
2. Skip the Knife Block
Knife blocks and utensil holders take up more counter space than necessary. To give yourself room on your surfaces, move your bread knives and utensils into drawers – or, add hooks/magnetic strips to your wall to hang these items.

3. Put Shelves Inside of Shelves
Think of this as a shelf-ception. Add more shelves to your cupboards by installing shelves between the existing shelving! By using this technique, you can create more space for your kitchenware. So, when it comes to pulling out the blender or the juicer, you won’t have to fight and sift your way through unorganized appliances and lids.
4. Take Advantage of Wall Space
Walls aren’t just for pretty pictures. Instead, use the open wall space you have in your kitchen to store and hang items that you want to access quickly and easily.
Some ideas include:
- Add a low shelf that can hold your toaster oven and a small microwave.
- Add hooks to hold pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils.
- Secure attractive storage containers to your wall.

5. Ditch the Stove-Top
Consider portable induction cooktops. These ingenious devices allow you to replace your built-in stovetops with a more portable solution. Now, you can open up some counter space and still enjoy a warm and hearty meal. Make sure and store your portable cooktop using one of your hack-friendly shelves within shelves.
6. Invest in a Fold-Down Kitchen Table
Just because your kitchen is compact, it doesn’t mean that it can’t become the favorite place in your home. Enter the fold-down kitchen table.
All you need is sizeable open wall space to create a table that mounts to the wall – with a surface that raises and lowers as needed. Stow this extra counter space by folding it flush against your wall.

7. Invest in Stackable Tupperware
To get the most out of your tiny kitchen, you need to put some thought into what you buy for it. For example, bulky Tupperware may take up a lot of space. You may want to invest in a set of stackable meal prep containers. This way, you can consolidate and organize all of your containers while freeing up additional space in your cupboards. Of course, the same applies to cups, pots, and pans (look for items that pack or stack together easily).
Don’t let a tiny kitchen deter you from stocking up on your favorite appliances and putting effort into preparing nutritious meals. And don’t be afraid to get a little creative.
