What Is Claritin?

Claritin (Loratadine) is a medication used to treat allergy symptoms. This includes hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and hives. It is used to treat runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, hives, itching, skin rash and other cold or allergy symptoms.

The medicine is available in different forms such as tablets, oral suspension, and syrup.

Side Effects:

Common Claritin side effects may include-

  • Fast or slow heart rate

Interaction:

Drug interactions may occur with certain antibiotics, acid-reducing drugs and antifungal medications. Warnings may apply to people with kidney disease, asthma or liver disease. People with phenylketonuria should not use certain brands of orally disintegrating tablets that may contain aspartame.

Precautions:

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor or health care provider if you are allergic to it or if you have a history of any other allergies.

Before taking Claritin medicine, tell your doctor about the medical history, especially of -

It is not expected to harm an unborn baby. However, ask your doctor if you're pregnant or planning to get pregnant.

Claritin (Loratadine) may pass into breast milk. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding.

Missed Dose:

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is almost the time for next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Overdose:

Overdose symptoms may include drowsiness, headaches and fast or pounding heartbeat. Seek emergency medical help or call at 1-800-222-1222.
