IGP C.D. Wickremaratne has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department a full scale investigation into allegations that the gemstones found in the old pinnacle of the Ruwanweli Mahaseya have been taken away and replaced with glass stones.
The IGP has issued this order after considering the request made by the Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanweli Maha Seya Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera and the members of the Dayaka Sabha.
The Dayaka Sabha has requested the Inspector General of Police to conduct an investigation in this regard as they are surprised to hear the information being shared in the social media.
They have further requested the Inspector General of Police to explain the correct situation to the public at the end of the investigation. This request has been made by them following a statement made by an individual on a youtube channel. Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera had also made a separate request from the IGP for an urgent and impartial investigations into this claim.
