The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has started an investigation regarding a fake letter that was circulated on social media using the letterhead
of the Chinese Embassy and distorting the position of the Chinese government regarding the debt restructuring of Sri Lanka.
The letter had been faked to show it as a letter sent by the Chinese ambassador to the President and the finance minister. As soon as the letter was circulated on social media, the Chinese Embassy issued a Twitter message saying that the letter was a fake.
In this regard, the Chinese ambassador had complained to Public Security the Minister Tiran Alles.
Alles, had referred the complaint to the Criminal Investigation Department. Accordingly investigations have been started on this fake letter to identify who is behind it.
