Inspector General of Police C. D. Wickremeratne has decided to hand over all the present and future investigations relating to university ragging incidents to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Accordingly, investigations being carried out by the police stations relating to university ragging will also be handed over to the CID for further investigation. The decision has been taken by the IGP as per the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Police Media Spokesman,SSP Nihal Thalduwa said. He said the IGP has forwarded necessary instructions in this regard to all the senior police officers.
Kiribathgoda police have received two complaints regarding the ragging incidents in the Kelaniya University and the Peradeniya police have received one complaint regarding a ragging incident in the Peradeniya University at present.
