The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has received a complaint of gold jewelry worth more than Rs.20 million missing from a state bank in Ottamavadi, Batticaloa.
A customer, who came to redeem the pawned jewellery, had first seen that the jewelry box was not in the locker. Following a complaint lodged by the Manager of that bank, it was revealed by the Police that jewelry boxes belonging to 12 customers had gone missing.
The gold articles pawned by the customers to obtain loans from January to December 2022 have gone missing in this manner. Two keys to the locker had remained with two officials of the bank. A special CID team will visit Batticaloa to investigate this incident.
