The Egyptian music composer and instrumentalist Chusss also known as "The Visitor" released his new EP "The Final Third" for free this month.
The concept of the EP is mainly about an Islamic spiritual idea; "The Final Third title is inspired by an idea that is shared between Sufi Islamic culture and other religions and spiritual systems. It is about the final third of the night, 2 or 3 hours before dawn and the beginning of a new day. It is believed that it is the most peaceful time of the day on both spiritual and physical levels." - Chusss clarified.
Also, he uttered; "It is believed that god descends through the 7 skies till the first one right above our world. It is also believed that prayers, wishes are all answered at this time, all wounds are healed and all sickness is cured."
Chusss believes that the EP could be an escape from daily life struggles, economically and physically; "in a stressful reality with an immense economic difficulty and physical strain on almost everyone, the concept of the final third becomes a useful refuge for everyone who is seeking peace. Music becomes healing and a catalyst for prayers, meditations, and contemplations towards a state of satisfaction and higher energy."
Through the years, he released several successful records and gained fame among the Egyptian music scene. In addition, he gained a lot of fans worldwide through his "Only Backing Tracks" project, which mainly to supports young guitarists to enhance their guitar skills and techniques.
Chusss is a nickname derived from "Shawky" the middle name of a composer and a passionate guitarist from Egypt. He started playing the keyboard at the age of 9 but he always had the dream of playing the guitar to express the music that always played inside his head.
In 1999, Chusss traded his keyboard with a cheap second-hand classic guitar and that was a life-changing event. He started exploring the instrument with no previous knowledge then he started studying music theory and guitar techniques using some printed books and music magazines he used to collect at local book fairs.
With the help of friends and other resources on the internet, he began to reach a degree of comfort at playing and fluency at composing guitar instrumentals.
From day one he was fascinated by his guitar and wrote many intros that later became popular instrumentals in online guitar communities and early independent music websites.
In 2000 he bought his first electric guitar and that was another milestone when he realized nothing was left to start recording and working on "The Visit" project.
Chusss has a personal approach in music composition and guitar playing that clearly has a strong Egyptian/Arabic flavour mixed sometimes with the power of rock music or the soulfulness of the blues. That became recognizable since the beginning of his journey as an independent musician.
"The Visitor" is a title that summarizes a personal philosophy and an outlook of the existence in life on this planet. This always was the centre focus of all the instrumentals and albums released under this project.
Chusss utilizes melodies and tunes as a soundtrack to accompany and describe life events that happen every day, or profound experiences that shape reality and help develop every person's mind and soul.
The Visitor released 5 albums between 2008 and 2015. In October 2019 his 6th album to be released with the title "The Final Third". It has been 20 years since the beginning of the musical journey, those albums along with the singles released through the years count more than 100 original guitar instrumentals.
Music has helped chusss overcome tough difficulties and circumstances. It became a way to gain patience and to heal. This is the mission of another music projects by chusss " Only Backing Tracks " which is an educational project with the aim to spread the pleasure of playing guitar and music improvisation.
